Spring 2023
Room
The rooms at Old Key West are among the most spacious in all of Walt Disney World Resort. For this vacation, I stayed in the standard studio room. The two queen beds are spaced far apart, with a bed stand that stands between the beds. The bathroom and kitchenette area were almost the size of another room themselves and were much more extensive than what would find in a value or moderate resort. The kitchenette was equipped with a sink, a coffee pot, coffee, a mini fridge, dish towels, and ample countertop space. Opposite the kitchenette was the closet which also had an ironing board and a safe tucked inside of it. The bathroom was also very spacious and had subtle decorations to beautify the room. The only downside of the room is that housekeeping currently only drops off towels and amenities on the fourth and eighth days of your trip. But don’t worry, if you need more of anything they will be glad to help you out and provide more towels.
Recreation
Old Key West provides an island-themed relaxing retreat from the mundane tasks of work. There are a variety of options at this resort to help you relax, especially the pools. Old Key West is loaded with pools, as it has four of them. Three of the pool are area pools for different sections of the resort, which include Miller’s Road, Old Turtle Pond Road, and South point Road. The main pool is located near the hospitality house and is paired with a 125-foot water slide that is themed as a giant sand castle, so make sure to bring a good swimsuit. Next to the pool is a sauna, which is located at the base of the lighthouse, and near the hot tub. My favorite parts of this pool are the infusion of island decor, and Disney magic, as the slide opens up with a mickey shape, and the pool is themed with a lighthouse, sand castle, and dolphin statues.
If a leisurely swim isn’t your thing, then Old Key West still has you covered! The resort is home to Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course, which offers picturesque views of the resort, and its waterways throughout many of it’s holes. There are also two tennis courts, a basketball court, a volleyball court, and four playgrounds sprinkled throughout Old Key West. The Hospitality House also features an exercise room, ping pong tables, a shuffleboard, and “The Electric Eel Game Room”. If all of those recreational offerings aren’t enough for you, then rent a surrey bike at “Hank’s Rent N Return”, or jog the resort’s trail.

Transportation
Located in the Disney Springs resort area, Old Key West has a transportation offering that most resorts don’t have access to. They have their own boat dock that has roundtrip service to and from Disney Springs! The boat departs at the dock which is located next to the Hospitality House, and comes a few times each hour. And like all Disney World Resort hotels, there is complimentary round trip bussing to all four parks. There are bus stops at each area in the resort, and the hospitality house, which reaches a total of five stops. To find bus times, there are televisions with bus times at each stop, and the information is also available in the resort hotel portion of the “My Disney Experience” app.
Hospitality House
The Hospitality House at Old Key West serves as the main hub of the resort. Guest services and concierge are located here, as well as shopping, dining, recreation, and transportation options. The Conch Flats General store is full of resort exclusive merchandise, and DVC member exclusives. Olivias and Goods to Go are full of different dining options, and even dole whip! The exercise room is also at the Hospitality House so make sure to bring workout clothes to sweat off the Disney treats!
Overall Thoughts
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Old Key West Resort, I especially enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of the resort. The rooms were very large, the resort is spread out and quiet. Despite the large size of the resort, the area bus stops make transportation easy. The pools in this resort are very spacious, compared to some of the other deluxe resorts like the Contemporary. The atmosphere is suitable for any ages, but it is a quieter resort that seems to cater more towards adults and older children. There are subtle touches of Disney characters in the resort’s buildings, but far less than you would find at a resort like Art of Animation. My traveling party was just my fiancé and I, we are young adults and we felt the resort was well suited for an adults only trip. We do not have children, so we enjoyed the lack of loud children that we have found at other resorts. We thoroughly enjoyed this resort and highly recommend it for anyone traveling with older kids and/or adults.
